The computer-assisted process of extracting term lists from electronic texts. If the text is also available in a translated version, bilingual lists may also be extracted – source and translation.

XAbbreviation for Translation Memory. A database which stores translation units, composed of a source text segment and a corresponding translation segment. Using translation memory makes it easy to reuse recurring translations, such as when re-translating an updated document or when translating similar projects. In addition to reduced translation time and cost, the translation memory also provides for translation consistency over time, even where different translators are used.
XThe process of transferring text from one language to another. Currently, only humans can provide a perfect translation. Machine translation technology (computer translation) is under constant development but the quality provided does not reach the quality of human translation.
XA person providing written text translation services. Professional translators only translate into their native language. Translators are distinct from interpreters, who translate speech simultaneously.
